A lot has happened over the last two weeks here at MDS Book Sales – hence the title of this blog! Despite the adverse weather conditions we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester’s Spring Transport Festival and hope that everyone who braved the snow enjoyed their weekend too. Both Push Once and Bury Corporation Transport were successfully launched and special thanks must go to the authors, Peter Nash and Colin Reeve, who were pleased to catch up with friends and former colleagues over the course of the weekend.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to attend the LVVS Open Day on Easter Sunday. We apologise for our absence however on the morning of the show we found that our trailer had two flat tyres which made transporting our stock to the event impossible. Hopefully everyone that did attend had a great day and the event as a whole was a huge success.
In terms of new releases, final adjustments are being made to the next Venture Publications title – Metrolink – Oldham to Chorlton including the Oldham Loop Railway. This book, which describes the origins of the steam trains in L&Y and later BR days, the modernisation with DMUs, and the opening of the new Metrolink service serving Oldham Mumps and Rochdale railways station, will hopefully be released by the end of April and is available for pre-order now, either by contacting the store or online.
Both Push Once and Bury Corporation Transport are selling well. Also now available are the latest Arriva, First and Stagecoach Bus Handbooks from British Bus Publishing priced at £19.75, £18.75 and £18.75 respectively, as well as Peter Horrex’s London’s Buses in the 1990s, which documents the period of privatisation in London.
That’s all for now – stay tuned for our next blog entry which will be published in the middle of the build-up to the 40th Spring Bus & Coach Gathering at Brooklands Museum – the event formally known as Cobham. As always, for more information, do not hesitate to contact the store directly or visit our website, Facebook and Twitter pages.
