Tyred and Exhausted

A lot has happened over the last two weeks here at MDS Book Sales – hence the title of this blog!   Despite the adverse weather conditions we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend at the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester’s Spring Transport Festival and hope that everyone who braved the snow enjoyed their weekend too.  Both Push Once and Bury Corporation Transport were successfully launched and special thanks must go to the authors, Peter Nash and Colin Reeve, who were pleased to catch up with friends and former colleagues over the course of the weekend.

The MDS Book Sales stall at the Spring Transport Festival

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we were unable to attend the LVVS Open Day on Easter Sunday.  We apologise for our absence however on the morning of the show we found that our trailer had two flat tyres which made transporting our stock to the event impossible.  Hopefully everyone that did attend had a great day and the event as a whole was a huge success.

In terms of new releases, final adjustments are being made to the next Venture Publications title – Metrolink – Oldham to Chorlton including the Oldham Loop Railway.  This book, which describes the origins of the steam trains in L&Y and later BR days, the modernisation with DMUs, and the opening of the new Metrolink service serving Oldham Mumps and Rochdale railways station, will hopefully be released by the end of April and is available for pre-order now, either by contacting the store or online.

Both Push Once and Bury Corporation Transport are selling well.  Also now available are the latest Arriva, First and Stagecoach Bus Handbooks from British Bus Publishing priced at £19.75, £18.75 and £18.75 respectively, as well as Peter Horrex’s London’s Buses in the 1990s, which documents the period of privatisation in London.

That’s all for now – stay tuned for our next blog entry which will be published in the middle of the build-up to the 40th Spring Bus & Coach Gathering at Brooklands Museum – the event formally known as Cobham.  As always, for more information, do not hesitate to contact the store directly or visit our website, Facebook and Twitter pages.

Push Once Signing at MDS Book Sales

Hello and welcome to MDS Book Sales’ fortnightly blog!

We will endeavour to keep you updated with all things MDS.

There could be no better day to start this blog than today.  Ahead of the Museum of Transport Greater Manchester’s Spring Transport Festival this weekend, we have had the pleasure of welcoming Peter Nash, retired Head of Stagecoach’s Commercial Policy and author of the Push Once book, to our store in Glossop to sign copies of Push Once.

Push Once, which chronicles 50 years of change, from the early 1960s to the present day, including a look behind the scenes at the successful delivery of the London 2012 Olympics transport requirements, will be launched this weekend at the Spring Transport Festival.  Nash’s book has already attracted high levels of publicity, having been reviewed in Buses Magazine, Classic Bus Magazine, Bus & Coach Preservation, Route One and Coach & Bus Weekly and will no doubt be a top-seller.  Also launching this weekend will be Super Prestige Number 28: Bury Corporation Transport.  The latest volume of the Super Prestige Series continues Colin Reeve’s study of operations across the North West and includes the story of the trams and buses from their earliest days through to the takeover of the operation by the PTE.  Both authors will be present at the MDS Book Sales stall at the Spring Transport Festival to sign copies of their respective books!

Keep an eye out for our next blog entry which will include a report and images from our time at the Spring Transport Festival and also from our day at the Lincoln Vintage Vehicle Museum’s Open Day!  In the meantime, why not take a look at our website along with our Facebook and Twitter pages!
